Structural steel symbols

Individual types of structural steel are assigned letter and numerical symbols. The designations of structural steel start with the letter S and are followed by three digits specifying its mechanical properties, i.e. the minimum yield strength, determined for a product with a minimum thickness of ≤ 16 mm. This value is expressed in MPa. Currently, the following structural steels are available on the market: S235, S275, S355, S420, S460, S500, S550, S620, S690, S890 and S960. Additionally, additional symbols are used, describing the steel's plasticity and impact strength, expressed as the breaking work KV (averaged) at the desired temperature. If it is equal to 27J at +20°C, 0°C, -20°C, it is marked as JR, J0 or J2. However, if in the same temperature range KV is 40J, the steel receives the markings KR, K0, K2. The most frequently used steels with symbols: s235jr, S235JRG1, S235JRG2, S235J0, S235J2G3, S235J2G4, S275JR, S275J0, S275J2G3, S275J2G4, S355JR, S355J0, S355J2G3, S355J2G4, S355K2G3, S355K2G4
